Applications
Bifenthrin
Bifenthrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide that prolongs the opening of sodium channels, resulting in membrane depolarization and conductance block in the insect nervous system. Bifenthrin is effective against A. gambiae and C. quinquefasciatus mosquitoes (LD50s = 0.15 and 0.16 ng/mg, respectively) and increases O. insidiosus mortality in treated corn and sorghum plants.
Dinotefuran
Dinotefuran is an insecticide of the neonicotinoid class. Its mechanism of action involves disruption of the insect nervous system by inhibiting nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
Target: nAChR, Antiparasitic.
Application of Bifenthrin + Dinotefuran Mixture
The mixture of Bifenthrin, a pyrethroid insecticide, and Dinotefuran, a neonicotinoid insecticide, provides broad-spectrum pest control by combining their different modes of action.
Target Pests
The mixture is effective against a wide range of pests, including:
-
Sucking insects, such as aphids, whiteflies, thrips, and leafhoppers.
-
Chewing insects, such as caterpillars, beetles, and borers.
-
Soil-dwelling pests, such as root maggots and grubs.
-
Mites, due to the acaricidal properties of Bifenthrin.
Crops
The mixture can be used on a variety of crops, including:
-
Vegetables: Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc.
-
Fruits: Citrus, apples, grapes, etc.
-
Field crops: Cotton, corn, soybeans, etc.
-
Ornamentals: Flowers, shrubs, and trees.
Application Guidelines
-
Timing: Apply during the early stages of pest infestation for optimal control.
-
Dosage: Follow the recommended dosage on the product label, as application rates vary depending on the crop and target pest.
-
Method:
-
Foliar spray: Dilute the mixture in water and spray evenly over the foliage to ensure thorough coverage.
-
Soil application: Apply as a drench or in granular form for the control of soil-dwelling pests.
-
Seed treatment: In some cases, the mixture may be used as a seed treatment to provide early-stage pest protection.
-
-
Frequency: Avoid excessive applications and apply as needed according to pest pressure and crop growth stage.
-
Weather conditions: Avoid application during heavy rain, strong winds, or high temperatures to maintain efficacy and minimize spray drift.
Advantages
-
Broad-spectrum control: Targets multiple types of pests simultaneously.
-
Dual mode of action: Combines contact and systemic activity for enhanced pest control.
-
Long residual effect: Provides extended protection against pests.
-
Rainfastness: Bifenthrin has good resistance to wash-off by rain.
Precautions
-
Safety: Wear appropriate protective clothing, gloves, and a mask during application. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes.
-
Environmental impact: Do not apply near water bodies or areas with high bee activity in order to protect non-target organisms.
-
Resistance management: Rotate with insecticides from other classes to help prevent the development of pest resistance.
-
Pre-harvest interval (PHI): Observe the recommended PHI to ensure food safety.
Example Use Cases
-
Vegetables: For the control of aphids and whiteflies, apply as a foliar spray at the first signs of infestation.
-
Fruits: To manage citrus psyllids or fruit borers, apply a spray during the growing season.
-
Ornamentals: Use for the control of mites and thrips on flowers and shrubs.
Always refer to the product label for specific application instructions and follow all applicable local regulations for pesticide use.
