(Rice Blast)Pyricularia oryzae

Rice blast caused by fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, is generally considered the most important disease of rice worldwide because of its extensive distribution and destructiveness under favourable conditions.
Gray, football-shaped leaf lesions with brown margins. Leaf symptoms are rare. Nodes and panicles are darkened. When panicle infection occurs, heads will be white. The panicle may collapse. The symptoms of rice blast include lesions that can be found on all parts of the plant, including leaves, leaf collars, necks, panicles, pedicels, and seeds. A recent report shows that even roots can become infected. However, the most common and diagnostic symptom, diamond shaped lesions, of rice blast occur on the leaves, whereas lesions on the sheaths are relatively rare.
Damage of blast: In severe infections, yields may be reduced by 50%. Upland rice is more severely damaged than lowland rice.
